Our story

A congregation on the move

We're 220 families strong, with an active Sunday School of 45 children across both churches. We're in the middle of refurbishing the manse — made possible by a fundraising campaign the whole community got behind — and we've just secured a new rural chaplaincy partnership with the Council for Mission in Ireland (CMI), reaching the farming community around Raphoe.

It's an exciting time for us. We're working to broaden our horizons, bring in more young people, and make sure our outreach matches the warmth of our congregation.

Our history

Rooted in the 17th century

Raphoe's Presbyterian roots trace back to the early 1600s. The present building, First Raphoe, was constructed in 1876. Ballindrait Presbyterian Church was founded in 1671, with its current building dating from 1810. The two congregations formally united in 2008, pooling their gifts and resources to strengthen worship and witness across the area.

Across the centuries, Presbyterian faith here has endured through times of real change — a story of perseverance, hospitality, and hope. In recent years that's meant embracing both tradition and innovation: from the much-loved Senior Sunday School service, to creative fundraising at Raphoe Livestock Mart and community Gospel concerts that opened new points of connection beyond our own congregation.

Refurbishment

Building for the next generation

Our manse refurbishment is coming on well, thanks to the generosity of our congregation and community during last year's fundraising campaign. It's more than a facelift — it's a statement that this congregation is investing in its future.

The manse is a Georgian family home within walking distance of Raphoe town (Eircode: F93 C5D5).
